Tools and equipment for SkillsUSA state conference

Advisors,

At this date I have not received tool and supply lists from our State Technical Chairs.

Please inform your contestants to bring the tools and supplies listed in the

2012 SkillsUSA National Technical Standards (attached) to the Oregon State Competition.

Since our contests are shorter than the 8 hour national contests please remember not all tools and supplies listed will be used.

Contest attire should be close to that described in the National Technical Standard.

Clothing must be clean and in good condition – no holes!

At this date do not order National Contest Clothing.  Have the students look professional.

I recommend that your contestants bring adequate tools to complete what the national contest indicates they will be tested on.

All contestants should carry a pen and a pencil.

All contestants need to turn in to each contest they are entered in, a resume and a completed knowledge test (name on the back and contestant number added at state conference).

Commercial Baking Contestants also please bring  2 -6 or a 12 hole regular size muffin pan(s).

Culinary Arts Contestants also please bring 4 sizes of pots and pans w/lids for preparing a meal and 2 dinner plates, 2 salad plates, 2 soup bowls, and 2 dessert plates for presentation.

Precision Machining Contestants also bring 1 set of parallels, de-burr  tool, file.

As an advisor this has always been a frustrating piece for me.  If you can help me put together a basic tool list for contests I believe it should be sent out with the Spring Mailer rather than the last minute.  Our Technical Chairs are extremely busy and we do really appreciate them.  A basic list would take the burden off of them.

If anyone can get me a basic tool list for any contest I will send it out ASAP.

See you next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a good restful weeknd.

SkillsUSA Welcome to Advisors

Welcome SkillsUSA Participants, Advisors, Tech Chairs and Judges:

Sabin-Schellenberg Professional Technical Center (SSC) students and staff are proud to host the annual state SkillsUSA competition for the second year. Please read the tips below that will help make your experience a postive one.

Driving directions:

From the South – Take exit 13 off I-205N toward 224W/82nd Avenue; take 224 West toward Milwaukie, then turn right onto 224. Turn left onto SE Johnson Road.

From the North – Take exit 13 off I-205S toward 224W ; take 224 West toward Milwaukie, then turn left onto SE 82nd Drive/OR224. Turn left onto SE Johnson Road.

Attached you will find two sets of maps of the Sabin and Schellenberg campuses. There is a set for Friday and a set for Saturday, each of which includes both the room number and the name of the event in each location. So if you are wondering where your Welding Fab kids need to go early Friday morning, it shows the spot on the Friday Sabin map. The maps also indicate where the lunch time barbeque is going to be, where Skills headquarters will be, and where you can find restrooms or the Main Office and other important items. You will each receive a copy of these maps in your registration packet, and we will have extra copies available in the Skills headquarters area.

If you have contestants in competitions that require computers, they must bring their own computers as well as an extension cord and a power strip. The only exception is Technical Computer Applications.

Friday – Busses should drop participants at Schellenberg for registration and the Opening Ceremony. Small busses and vans must park across the street at Sabin; large busses must park at KMart after dropping passengers. A map to KMart will be provided when dropping off passengers. Shuttles will be available from KMart to SSC and back, and between Sabin and Schellenberg Campuses; participants may also walk between Sabin and Schellenberg using the bike lane and crosswalk.

Saturday – Busses should stop at Schellenberg – ALL Participants must STAY ON the bus. The advisors will go into the Commons and pick up the registration packet. An SSC guide will be available at the front entrance near registration to inform participants which campus their competition is on. After being given their participant number, participants with competitions on Schellenberg will get off the bus and go to their competition area. The bus driver will then take the rest of the participants to the Sabin campus. Large busses must park at KMart, small busses and vans must park at Sabin. Shuttles will be available from KMart to SSC and back, and between Sabin and Schellenberg Campuses; participants may also walk between Sabin and Schellenberg using the bike lane and crosswalk.

Barbeque hamburgers, chips and drink will be available for $5 on the Sabin campus Friday and Saturday, behind room 115. Or use the map of local restaurants included in the Program Guide. Additionally, the Student Store and MudHut will be open with snacks and drinks on the Schellenberg Campus Friday. Vending machines with water and diet pop are located one on each Campus: Main Hall near Commons on Schellenberg, Main Office on Sabin.

The Cosmetology Salon will be open on the Sabin campus Friday from 9 – 11:30 a.m., and again from 12:30 – 3:00 p.m. for haircuts ($5), manicures ($5), and pedicures ($6).

Sincerely,

Karen Phillips, Principal
